SRAA Teacher Grant Awards
2024-2025 SRAA Grant Recipients are as follows:
Each school year the Santa Rosa Art Association, Inc., which meets in Milton, FL, seeks to award monies to help fulfill art program needs to SRC educators. Last August, more than 30 SRC art educators were invited to apply for the two annual $400 SRAA art grants. While four applications were all very worthy, the SRAA membership could only support the two top applicants. To make the selection very fair, 17 SRAA randomly selected members were given printed ballots with descriptions from each project request. (Teachers’ names and school names were not on the ballots.) An anonymous member donated a an additional one-time scholarship so that we could fully fund one more school request this year. SRAA checks were delivered to each of the top three teachers and their schools on December 9, 2024.
Since our business portion of the SRAA meeting last year limited grant reports to about 3 to 5 minutes for each teacher and since the SRAA membership wanted a chance to talk to each teacher about their fascinating lessons, the membership this year has asked that in April of 2025 we allow more time to each recipient so that each teacher can explain their lessons, share proofs of expenditures, and share images of actual students’ artworks. Therefore, each of the recipients were asked to give their final reports at the SRAA membership meeting on April 26, 2025 during the 10 to 12 noon portion of the SRAA meeting.

The top grant recipient received the grant but did not complete her grant requirements or report back to the SRAA; therefore, she is no longer eligible for further grants.

Grant recipient Natacha Duval of Pace High School planned a unit of exploration using Prismacolor Pencils where her 147 students learned precision drawing techniques using grids, practiced using accurate layering of quality colored pencil media and materials to create realistic form using light and dark values, and then partnered with photography and art students to create drawings using creative foreshortening.

A donor scholarship was awarded to Rachel Southworth of Gulf Breeze Middle School who replenished poster supplies for students for a through-the-year poster series of projects promoting positive behaviors of Respect, Honesty, Kindness, and Responsibility.
Congratulations to these two art teachers. We are very thankful for the educational leadership, the support of administrators, and the quality art programs being offered in our Santa Rosa County School System.
